Watchers

I just did a quick 20 min. podcast with Josh Flanagan over at iFanboy about what to put in your portfolio and talked about the Comics Experience class I'm teaching. The class starts up in just 2 weeks, check it out!

here's the link to the podcast:

And here's a link to know more about the Intro to Comic Art class! If you're wanting to break into comics, this class provides a LOT of info about the basic foundational rules of storytelling. I pull from what I was taught from my MFA in Sequential Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as my 7 years of experience working in the industry to provide you with insight and instruction!

I talk more about the specifics of the course in this blog post over at the Comics Experience:

And here's a write up by a student who took the Intro class:

  • Listening to: Honor Harrington Audio book series
  • Reading: An X-Men Omnibus you could kill someone with
  • Watching: Legend of Korra: Avatar
  • Playing: With He-Man Action figures

Shoot me a note and I can give you details if you're interested. They are in the $200-$300 range.

Do you ever have those days where for the life of you, you can't seem to draw well? What do you do when that happens?

Do script layouts, invoice, get reference compiled for the next issue, mail out artwork, get supplies, read a comic or two then give it another go. There's plenty of things to do that aren't creative that still need done for me to be a freelance artist. I do my best to take advantage of those times when I am creative to do the most work possible. On those days that I'm not feeling it, I do all the other crap.

But if you're under deadline and you're not feeling it...too bad. you just draw, that's part of it being a job instead of a hobby. Even if you're not in the mood, if you're a professional, you do the work.

I launched the series when IDW picked it up in 2009. I did issues 1-6, 13-17, and 23-27 of the first volume. That's trades 1,3, and 5. Then I launchedt the Snake Eyes series with issues 1-4, and Im back on now with issues 13-16. 13 comes out May 23rd!

Thanks,!
